Reed
October 28 – November 24
The Celtic Moon month of Reed prompts you to withdraw from the outer world, to look within yourself and reconnect with the past.
Harmony, Health, Growth, Purpose, Clarification
Even though the Reed isn’t an actual tree, the druids considered any plant with a woody stalk to be a tree and so the reed was included in the sacred Ogham. Reed was an extraordinarily useful plant with many noble qualities and a symbol of connection, protection and communication.
Reed can grow in swampy land, growing up to 20 feet tall. Such a presence reinforced the tree’s place in the hierarchy of nature among the Celts.
Whistles, flutes and recorders were created from Reed by the Celts linking it to the symbolism of communication. Today, if you are still, you can hear the wind singing through the fields of Reed. The Druids considered these evocative and eerie sounds as powerful message from other worlds.
