August 5 – September 2
Make the most of this month to open your mind and exercise your intellect with the learned power of the Hazel Moon.
Creativity, Purity, Honesty
With its unusual, contorted, wizened branch formations, the Hazel tree is associated with creativity. In Celtic times, it was a source of inspiration, fantasy and poetry among the druids and bards.
The Hazel tree was said to contain ancient wisdom and eating the hazelnuts was considered to induce visions and heightened awareness. In Folklore, Fionn Mac Cumhail claims to have gained the wisdom of the universe from the essence of the hazelnut, which had been eaten by the salmon in a sacred pond encircled by nine hazel trees.
Eating hazelnuts when feeling creatively stuck or generally stagnated in life allows a person to call upon the energy of the hazel tree. Making a necklace from the nuts will protect and inspire, especially during meditative and divining practices.
